Create A Cartoon Avatar

You know it's very important to have an image of yourself on the web, especially if you are doing business online.

Like it or not, if you don't have a photo you don't know what people see when you leave a comment or post a blog. And people associate you with that mystery image. Not good when you are trying to create your own brand.

So you know it's important, but you don’t have a photo or you don’t feel comfortable using your picture. What do you do?

Create a cartoon character of yourself!

How do you share your website link on Facebook?

Have you ever wanted to share your web page on Facebook?

I do it like this...

1.

On Facebook, copy and paste your link into the "What's on your mind?" or "Write a post..." box.

Simple, right?

2.

The link pulls in the title, image and snippet that was setup when the page was created...hopefully.

Neat, huh?

If not, the information can be added at any time. (I use the Yoast SEO plugin to create the sharing information.)

If you don't provide the information (called metadata) then Google will try to find a relevant part of your post to show in the search results. Yikes!

3.

The title of the article you are sharing is linked, so there is no need for an link above it. You can simply delete the link before sharing your post.

Deleting the link after the information populates will not delete the information; instead, it lets you share your webpage without the clutter of a link.

Gravatar - Your Online Photo

Gravatar, Your Online Photo

What Is A Gravatar?

According to the Gravatar site, your Gravatar (or Globally Recognized Avatar) is an image that follows you from site to site appearing beside your name when you do things like comment or post on a blog.

Simply put, a Gravatar is your online image or logo associated with your email address.

You create your profile, upload your photo, and then when you participate in any Gravatar-enabled site (like WordPress), your Gravatar image will automatically appear.

A Gravatar is a free service for site owners and users, and puts a face to your brand to helps you stand out.

To get a Gravatar you just open a free account by going to Gravatar.com

Create Gravatar

Once you click on the Create Your Own Gravatar button, you’ll be taken to a sign up page where you can fill in your information – email address, username and password.

An email will be sent to activate your account. Click on the link in the email and sign in to your Gravatar account.

NOTE

You're signing up for a WordPress.com account too, but don't worry ... I don’t use my WordPress.com account and they don't send me any unsolicited email.

After signing in you’ll go to Managing Gravatars. Here you can:

  • Add more emails (and Gravatar images) - be sure to add your WordPress admin email!
  • Note which email is your primary email
  • Upload your images (don't have an image? go here to create a cartoon)

And you're done!

Then anytime you comment on someone’s WordPress website or have an author box on your own, it shows up automatically!

How can I get a Gravatar?

It’s simple and it’s free. Go to Gravatar’s website and signup for a free account. Add an avatar of yourself. This could be a picture of yourself, your company’s logo, or something unique. You can change it at any time.
